Nestled in the hilly region of southern Colorado just off I-25 in Trinidad, Colorado is a remarkable La Quinta Hotel. (Address: 2833 Toupal Drive, Trinidad, Co 81082). A visit to this facility will provide travelers with a one-of-a-kind lodging experience. Trinidad, Colorado La Quinta (LQ.com) has combined a quality hotel with large, pleasingly decorated rooms and suites as well as a full wellness program for all hotel guests. Not only does this hotel have the usual guest work out room, it takes it up a notch and provides work out assistance.
Touting this hotel as a “wellness” hotel sets the bar rather high when being compared to other hotels. La Quinta has really stepped up with this facility and does not disappoint! There are indoor and outdoor pools with scheduled water aerobics for all ages. Water aerobics are available on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5:00p.m. for a fee of $5.00. On Tuesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m. there are yoga classes, and on Thursday evening, again at 5 p.m. Pilate’s classes are available. (A $5.00 fee applies). Pilate’s classes Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. are a great way to begin the day, and the $5.00 fee is minimal in relationship to the benefit! No reservations are required to take part in these fitness activities, so feel free to walk in and join the group.
A full service Spa provides massages, wraps and facials with flexible scheduling to fit the needs of busy hotel guests. Spa services are based on availability of time, and the hotel provides the phone number (1-719-859-3320) for scheduling. Check out time is 12 noon allowing for a morning swim, or a massage before beginning your day.
The Lobby area welcomes you in with a burning fireplace, comfortable seating and tasteful stained glass pieces. Just off the Lobby is Ole’s Cantina, — what a savior for the weary traveler! Ole’s Cantina is open late – usually until at least 10 p.m. (based on the hotel crowd). There is a cozy bar serving call drinks, blended drinks and sodas, as well as atmosphere and seating for families seeking nourishment. Ole’s menu is divided into ‘Snacks’ – which include nachos, hot wings, quesadillas, garlic cheese bread and battered boomers (beer battered mushrooms); ‘Fillers’ , which are sandwiches, including but not limited to Rueben’s, BLT’s and Turkey Bacon on Ciabatta roll. Then, there is this writer’s favorite – the Club, with ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey and mayo on either pizza dough or Ciabatta bread. My suggestion is trying the pizza version of this sandwich, with Ranch Dressing streamed on top…. Not only is it yummers (!) – It is a great bedtime snack after a long day of travel.
The only downside to Ole’s Cantina is that there is no room service available, so keep your clothes on because you have to run down and pick up your order when they call that it is ready. (Yep, I had to get out of my comfortable Pj’s, — but my Club pizza was worth it.)

Trinidad, Colorado is a beautiful tiny town to pass through, or to stop and spend a night or two. The La Quinta is on this writer’s list of places to return to because of the comfort and amenities provided, but also and most important, the hotel is pooch friendly! There is no fee for animals if you are a recurring La Quinta visitor, which I am and will continue to be.
Come to Trinidad, make this La Quinta your favorite stop, and try the Club on pizza dough!
